Safety is everybody’s responsibility but it has to start at the top of the organization. If you are a manager or supervisor it is your job to enforce safety regs every day for everybody. And not in an intimidating way but in a convincing way. It’s great to train in environments where safety is taken seriously by operators and management. It’s miserable training in workplaces where the management clearly only pay lip service to safety. The attitude filters down to all workers and leads to a don’t care attitude. That is not healthy for anybody.
Try using the “Don’t walk past an unsafe act” adage. We see this signage more and more at big construction projects in our area and it’s a good attitude to take.
