An often overlooked safety necessity with any forklift is the operator’s manual.
It should be available (often stored in the pocket on the back of the seat) and operators should read it.
Why? Because every forklift is different and this is where the manufacturer explains the specifics of your machine.
I know guys don’t believe in reading manuals, or consulting maps for that matter, but with a forklift just jabbing at the controls without knowing what may happen can be disastrous.
If you can’t find the manual take a look online, many manufacturers now make their manuals available as downloads.
But reading the manual does not replace training, in BC you must be trained for the specific class of forklift you will be operating.
