Does online learning work for forklifts? There are more and more of these courses being offered to companies and individuals. Do they work?
A compliant program for BC involves both a theory session and practical. Theory can indeed be delivered online. However, for the person who then conducts the practical part of the program they have no real way of knowing how much theory was understood. Computer based learning relies on multiple choice and repetition and even a monkey can pass a course if they try enough times. What it lacks is the human component which allows a student to ask questions and have the material explained in a way that they understand.
As an instructor I prefer to cover both portions of the program.
And while I know monkeys can shop in Ikea, I wouldn’t want one driving a forklift.
