Once again proving the point that forklifts are not designed to lift people – a UK cheese maker has been fined for allowing workers to stand on the forks and be elevated. Needless to say this eventually led to an accident and serious injury when the forks hit the back of a vehicle, the forklift jolted and the worker fell to the ground. He only fell about a metre but suffered cuts to his leg and multiple fractures to his ankle.
Lifting workers on the forks had become a common occurrence at this workplace but despite it being both dangerous and illegal the company had not identified it as a problem.
Needless to say they have now found another way to carry out the task.
