Three basic rights of workers in Canada

If you are ever in doubt about whether a work activity is safe, refer to your three basic rights:

  • The right to know what hazards are present in the workplace.
  • The right to participate in keeping your workplace healthy and safe.
  • The right to refuse work that you believe to be dangerous to yourself or your co-workers.

The CCOHS has a handy bookmark reminding us of these three basic rights.

When it comes to forklifts, if it doesn’t look safe and it doesn’t feel safe don’t do it.  Stop and think!

Remember the four checks – check your machine, check your load, check your environment and check your clearances.
