Pedestrian safety around forklifts Operator training is mandatory but pedestrian training is not. However, it is just as important to teach employees working near or around mobile equipment how their behaviour can affect their own safety and that of others. This program is offered as a group session with a theory component covering pedestrian guidelines, and a practical assessment identifying hazard areas and ways to improve the interaction between forklifts and pedestrians in your workplace environment. Often overlooked, pedestrian safety can add an essential piece of the puzzle to your safety at work program. Did you know that 30% of forklift accidents involve pedestrians. If you work around forklifts always wait for the operator’s instructions and establish eye contact before proceeding. Warning signage for pedestrians is a must.
Can you see the pedestrian? It may be a good idea to cordon off the aisle.
